A collaboration mahi with Hirepool
“I have worked with Damian and the team at Whakaraupō Carving Centre for a couple of years now to help create some Toki Paraihe for our annual industry awards. I have found the quality of the work coming from Whakaraupō Carving Centre to be excellent and Damian himself has been great to work with and very clear with communication and able to deliver to the timeframes required. We look forward to working with them in the future”
The Toki were presented to the winners of the Hirepool Construction Excellence Awards which were held at Te Papa. They have been deliberately carved with the mana of our esteemed whakairo practitioners to ensure that the award-winners can be proud in their contribution to the construction of Aotearoa. Moreover, the intention of the Toki to be born on ceremonial occasion aligns and enhances the unification, innovation, and diversity and representation between Māori and non-Māori craftsmanship.
We whole-heartedly agree that the process of beginning to completing a project comes from a team with unified vision, that overcomes obstacles and thrives to get the job done. This is where the mana exists in the Toki, to maintain collaborative innovation that is successful, unique and sustainable. And lastly, we hope that the Toki will reflect the ongoing warm mutuality between Māori and non-Māori, leaving a legacy in the hands of future generations.
