Our Kōrero

Whakaraupō Carving Centre is a non-profit Charitable Trust established by whānau members of te hapū o Ngāti Wheke in 2010. Our purpose is to uphold the mana of Te Ao Māori, we focus to uphold the mana and Tikanga of whakairo kaupapa toi and preserve the ancient teachings of our tūpuna.

We are driven to equip tangata whenua with the knowledge of our history, our reo, and our culture, to promote and uphold Tino Rangatiratanga.

As a Māori Leadership organisation in the arts sector, Whakaraupō Carving Centre seeks to be adaptable and innovative by supporting the aspirations of Rangatahi, supporting Toi practitioners, and carving out a society centred on truth, equity, and creativity.

We are located in the heart of Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū, an abundant peninsula that carries a rich canvas of Māori history and identity. Like the korero of Rākaihautū, we hope to provide for iwi, hapū, and whānau with the tools to secure their place in Aotearoa.
